Hello, All!

Last time I've played angband my char(mage L30) died when I've tried spell
banishment. When and how I can use it safe? (now my another char is L32).

Hello, All!

Banishment is always a hazard. It remove monsters witrh a specific
symbol from the level and takes some of your hit points for every
monster removed. When you haven't explored the level yet, you can
never know how many other monsters with the same symbol you see (ie
you may see a pack of 15 gravity hounds, think you can banish them
safely without knowing about the 40 clear hounds elsewhere on the
level). Further, never use banishment when already low on hitpoints
and be careful with banishment when you're near a hard-hitting monster
represented by a different character.

Mass banishment is safer. It removes most monsters, regardless of
symbol but based on distance. If you have ESP or detect mosnters
first, you know in advance how many monsters you'll get.

Below is the spoiler info for banishment and mass banishment, giving
more detailed information. Don't read past the white space if you
don't want to know it. If you want even more spoiler info, you can
find it at ftp://clockwork.dementia.org/angband/Spoiler.

(d) Banishment
Mage : Level 30, Mana 45, %Fail 95, Exp 25
Ranger : n/a
Rogue : n/a
Removes all monsters represented by a chosen symbol from the level.
Unique monsters are not affected. 1d4 points of damage is inflicted
on the character for every monster removed.

(f) Mass Banishment
Mage : Level 35, Mana 75, %Fail 90, Exp 100
Ranger : n/a
Rogue : n/a
Removes all monsters within 20 squares of the character. Unique
monsters are not affected. 1d3 points of damage is inflicted on the
character for every monster removed.

Are there any experience points gained for the banished foes?

Best regards,

No.

Great sig line, BTW. Would you mind if I forward it to a CompuServe
Forum?

So, don't do that :).

Banishement can be deadly. *Never* try to banish 'o's and 'T's - you should not
have much problems with killing them in easier ways, and if you missed a pit
on that level, you're dead. Banishment is very useful against 'Z's. If you have
200+ HPs, you won't probably die; just make sure you're safe and at full HPs.
Monsters like 'd's, 'D's (beware of dragon pits, though... but they are much
deeper than cl32 mage can survive), 'W's, 'G's and others are probably safe
to banish. Anyway, until you have 500+ HPs, try not to banish much, unless
you really need to. Always make sure that you are at full HPs, and that if you
are seriously weakened by casting, nothing will disturb you while you are
resting!
